Accommodations

Accommodations aboard "Sea Angel" include 6 staterooms/cabins in total, providing berths for 12.  Crew accommodations are forward, with 3 or 4 of the staterooms for owners and guests. Please see layout diagram for specifics.

SALON

There are three large windows to port and to starboard, three ports across the forward section of the house and two opening overhead hatches; combined these give the area a great deal of light and fresh air if desired.  The salon is finished in teak paneling with high gloss teak molding and trim.  Across the forward part of the salon is a wet bar and storage cabinet for glasses and table linens.  The wet bar has a gold plated sink and faucet.  On the port side of the salon is a built-in L-shaped settee with new (2017) upholstery.  Starboard are two teak cabinets with sliding louvered doors.  Aft, near the companionway and within feet of the helm, is a desk for office use or for use of the navigator as a secondary station. 2 New recliners installed (2021).

OWNER AND GUEST ACCOMMODATIONS

A four-step companionway leads from the centerline aft to the guest and owners’ accommodations below. Here the yacht is finished in an off-white linen textured wall covering.  Moldings and door frames are varnished teak, and all hardware is brass.  Doors have painted white louvers which are framed with teak moldings.

Moving aft from the salon, you’ll encounter port and starboard identical staterooms, each with two twin-sized berths.  Both have built-in teak bureau with marble inlaid top between the berths, a large mirror, teak drawers beneath the berths, and a cedar lined hanging locker.  Door handles and other hardware are of solid brass.  At the aft end of the both staterooms are ensuite heads with showers.  Each head has a Corian sink and countertop,, Vacuflush toilet, and a teak and holly sole.

The Master Stateroom is all the way aft and features a queen sized centerline berth with larger drawers underneath, two cedar line hanging lockers, a wrap-around vanity with chair to starboard and matching wrap-around desk with chair to port.  Aft of the desk and vanity on each side are built-in bureaus, each with 4 sizeable drawers.  At the very aft end of the master stateroom are ensuite his and her heads with a shared tub/shower in between them.  Both heads have Corian sinks and countertops, teak storage cabinets, mirrors, cupboards for linens[1] .  There are two large opening overhead hatches here as well as two opening ports on each side.  Adjacent to the port hatch is a foldaway ladder with can be used as an emergency escape egress.

FORWARD ACCOMMODATIONS

A curved stairway leads from the forward starboard corner of the main salon to the galley, engine room and crew’s quarters below.  The engine room itself is accessed via a door from the aft end of the lower companionway.  Forward of the engine room entrance, and to port, is the large and well ventilated galley.  The galley boasts extra large refrigeration and freezer capacity, white Corian countertops and extensive storage.  Please see Galley section for more information.

Opposite the galley to starboard is a stateroom with an upper and lower berth.  Because of this stateroom’s location, the owner uses it sometimes for family/guests and sometimes for crew.  Immediately forward of the galley, on the port side, are a Splendide washer and dryer.  Adjacent is a crew ladder which leads up to the foredeck. Opposite is a crew dinette with file drawers beneath the seats.  Further along the companionway to port is the captain’s cabin with upper and lower berth, additional built-in drawers, a hanging locker, opening port, and 2 deck prisms.  Just forward to starboard is the crew head with sink and shower.  The shower is a shared with a second head which is located immediately forward.  All the way forward to port is another upper and lower bunk crew cabin.

Sails and Rigging

In 2011, Sea Angel's original stowaway rig was replaced with a more modern arrangement.  She now has a standard (and lighter weight) Sparcraft aluminum spar with a Betts carbon fiber pocket boom.  This system allows for a fully battened mainsail, vastly improving her sailing characteristics.  In addition, it is jam-proof and keeps the weight lower and closer to the center of gravity.  The pocket boom will "catch" the mainsail beautifully making reefing or dropping the main easier on the crew.  And raising the main is done with hydraulic winches.

Remarks

A strong, beautiful, and classic Sparkman & Stephens sailing yacht, Sea Angel is a unique world cruiser.  Sea Angel (Sparkman & Stephens design number 2455), built at Stephens Marine in California, was one of the groundbreaking motorsailer ketches designed in the 1980's.  With accommodations for 6 - 8 owners and guests, and 4 - 6 crew, she can handle a large family and many guests with ease.

In 2011, her rig was modernized to employ a carbon fiber "pocket boom".   With the hydraulic halyard winch, raising and lowering the main is almost effortless.  This improvement allowed for a fully battened mainsail and a reduction of weight aloft, while eliminating the chance of a fouled in-mast mainsail.  Moreover, her sailing characteristics were greatly improved by this upgrade in mainsail size and shape.

Sea Angel enjoys constant maintenance by her very knowledgeable owners. She is ready to leave on her next adventure! New bottom Epoxy Barrier Coat & New Bottom Paint (July 2023)
