Custom Bertram 25 fisherman/weekender built by Canoe Cove Manufacturing in Sidney, BC, as a patrol boat for the RCMP.  Completely reconfigured by Canoe Cove by removing the gasoline engine and installing a Volvo diesel and trolling outboard, re-surfacing the hull and decks and installing new electronics, heating system and canvas.  

The legendary rough water capability remains.  An awesome fishing/commuting/weekender that is very easy on fuel and will perform well in any sea conditions.  Set up for safe short-handed use by a knowledgeable owner.

Accommodations

Built as a dedicated fishing boat but remarkably comfortable for overnighting.  V-berth cabin forward with large V-berth (with storage under) and enclosed head with toilet and sink.  Espar furnace and bus heater off engine provide lots of heat and hard-top over cockpit provides weather protected seating.  Two burner alcohol/electric stove for cooking or coffee!

Notes

Custom built 25 Bertram Bahia Mar with hard-top that was built in 1973 under license by Canoe Cove Manufacturing.  Originally completed with many custom features for RCMP as MP38 and sent into service in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Fully molded construction to heavy scantlings.  Gasoline sterndrive power removed and replaced with a Volvo 4 cylinder diesel in 2012.  Purchased by current owner in 2017 and exterior refinished and interior upgraded by Canoe Cove Manufacturing, the original builder.  Refit included diesel forced air heating, upgraded electronics, trolling motor with controls at helm, custom downriggers and mounts and more.  

Set up as a serious small fishing machine and yet comfortable for overnight cruising.  Currently used mostly as an all-weather commuter to island property.   

Attention has been paid to safety with high hand rails on bow deck and rails on hard top and around aft deck.  Capable rough water performance in an easily handled package.

Owner Upgrades and Maintenance -2022-2024

  • All hardtop rails and fitting removed and rebedded.  Some core repairs and revising of backing plates and hardware.
  • Windscreen re-caulked.  Old caulking removed and cleaned out as possible.  New seal and caulking installed.
  • New bow bollard style cleats installed port and starboard.
  • Engine hatch lift cylinders replaced.
  • Unused canvas fittings removed and holes filled and surfaced along with a few old fastener holes in engine area.
  • Raymarine 18" Quantum radar installed to work as part of existing Axiom system.  Mounted on hardtop with Seaview mount.  Redundant antennas and wiring removed.  Software on Axiom system updated.
  • Floor panel in head upgraded to starboard panel.  Head serviced.
  • Bilge pumps tested and serviced.
  • New Volvo engine control lever installed, oil change, filter change, fuel filter change and engine service.  Codes cleared after control lever problem.  Service by Cullen Diesel.
  • Raw water washdown system installed.
  • New wiper motors, arms and blades installed.
  • Aft and Fprward fuel tank gauges - new senders installed when tanks professionally cleaned.
  • Test run trolling motor.
  • Exterior clean, polish and detailing.
  • Repaired Espar furnace diverter switch.
